Truly Belonging
Is a self-made decision
Without influence
Not what others think
But how you value yourself
In the group's context
Regardless of size
Even in small families
One can feel outcast
Fitting in or not
Seems so simple to many
Just sure of themselves

Each of these has a very wise and philosophical tone to it. And they are all very valid and useful to remember. The first one is particularly vivid to me. It comforts me to think 'belonging' can be something I can achieve, not reliant on others. Thanks for sharing.
you just know when you belong...or when you don't. very wise words.
You have the gift of exhortation. Thank you for these haiku!
Bravo Chris! I love how you explored self esteem and empowerment in these, and also the complexities of feeling left out -- whether it is done to us or our own confidence is wavering and we hold back. Really well done!
:)
It is true that if you have no confidence or esteem for yourself you'll always feel foreign to your surroundings, even if they are familiar.
But not so easy to value yourself, though taking control is surely worthwhile. Enjoyed these.
