She stood in his doorway
Flowers in hand
Smile on her face
Waiting for an answer
After shuffling to knock
That never came
But he saw her
From down the hall
Without the courage
To approach
Feeling this was letting her down softly
When it was anything but that
To him another notch
A way to brag
But for her a gentleman
She laid down the flowers
Still smiling
Thinking of the night before
And was on her way
Without a tear or a word
She had a different way
Of saying goodbye

Very well depicted.

"Without a tear or a word
She had a different way
Of saying goodbye"

Would tears help?

Very nice. I love your poems that have a surprise twist at the end. (Most of all, I'm glad he didn't get away with hurting her - another notch, indeed!)
