Instinct

The time has come to decide
Practice what the preaches
Or follow his current instinct
A darker side of his personality
That often gets him in trouble

Having recently decided
He had figured out a lesson about life
How to drop something and walk away
Now a test arises

Will his thoughts overcome his instinct
Which is to argue and to win
To treat every situation as a contest
Where he must come out on top

Or will his instinct overcome his thoughts
Which are to change the subject
Employ the use of humor and kindness
And pretend to forget what he heard

This time he walks away
Looking easy to any bystander

This small task was possibly
One of the most difficult things
He had ever accomplished
The will power to do it forever
Harder than all alcoholics, drug addicts, and smokers
Quitting for good in the same day
