Staring at the drawing on the wall

The old man sat
Sipping on a shot of whiskey
No ice to dilute it
Just alcohol
Drinking away his troubles
Mustache taking a bath in it
Incase he later wanted
To kiss a lady of the evening
To give the impression he was drunk
His wife far too old
Like him
To be interested in any hanky panky
Probably just cooking, cleaning, or napping at home
Both form a long past tradition
Not forgotten
Practiced often
Men doing as they please
Even married men
While women do their bidding
The man squinted
Not from the taste
That had long since been acquired
But from the collection of wrinkles
Pressuring his eyelids down
His large ears, white hair, and dopey hat
Did not match the distinguished half suit he wore
Maybe next a cigar
Who knows?
Just a drawing on the wall

I wish I knew how you come up with some of this, Chris. I can't pick a favorite line, though I liked the visual of the mustache drink thing, the whole squint thing --

and the ending, I just love:

Just a drawing on the wall

Very well down character sketch. It comments on the male/female dynamic brillantly.

Holy good god, Chris! You've grown since the last time I stopped by. You always had that great tendency to write in pure simple language, but now you're really getting the hang of drawing honest poetry from your immediate surroundings. I'm impressed.
