Fish

Of all the fish in the sea
It was you that washed up
While I walked in the sand
Leaving footprints during the still after the storm
Nothing like a stray cat
Trying to get my affections
With absolutely no knowledge of me
You were still

I took you in
A scantly covered woman
And I locked no doors
Leaving you food, wine, water, clothes
Anything I thought you might need
Along with a warm fire
Letting you sleep
And regain your strength

When I returned the room was empty
Everything consumed and clothes taken
But in your space
Was a small medallion
That instantly caught my eye
A present from my father
I had lost at sea as a boy
Shining as bright as when I lost it
