Rainbow through the trees

The sun’s rays are peaking
Through the thick foliage
Of the tall oaks
Flickering like a candle
Creating shadows
Of branches and leaves
Whispering in the wind
Looking up towards the giant sphere
Of burning orange gas
Through the limbs
It appears a prism
Is splitting the colors
In many different directions
Like a rainbow out of shape
And without the water
The tree is strong
Rooted deeply into the ground
And covered
With pine needles at the base
To make the roadside bench
Seem more appealing
To anyone needing a break
From the vicious summer heat
