Americans

An understandable difference
Is to be expected
Between people, places, and ideas
Because of nature and nurture
Genetics and upbringing
But then there are Americans
Who complain about visits
To local states that don't fit
Insides their bubble of what is right
Other countries have people that do research
Preparing for a vacation is a learning process
We expect it handed to us on a platter
And refuse to learn 'foreign' languages, expecting English
Other people understand that cultures are different
And study the traditions before a visit
Americans act like themselves, no matter how pompous
And seem to be surprised by everything
The world is metric
Yet we have our own system
This insistence to be different
Comes off as idiotic
Like sardines in a can
We shield ourselves
And once opened we still ignore
While others copy us
Playing our music, enjoying our movies
We pretend we are the sole entertainment
And other countries don't make music or film
We eat way too much
Going to excess at everything
Teaching people we are fat, lazy, and power hungry
And that democracy is easy
Just break up the word
A 'demo'nstration of 'crazy'
In this hell of never stopping consumers
That will never enjoy life because like a child
We always will want more
